How to Shade Match Foundation - YouTube

I get this question a lot. It's really hard to find the perfect shade foundation. Then when you do you want it to work without looking a hot mess. That's why women spend so much money on foundations. It takes a while to find something that works well for you. You don't want to buy something that is too light, especially for women of color. When you buy foundation that is too light you end up having a gray/white cast on your face (look like a ghost). I watch lilpumpkinpie05 on Youtube often. She has very helpful hint on working with your makeup. You just have to keep trying until you get it right.

Here's one on finding the right foundation. (She means foundations you would buy in the mall and not found in the drugstore.)

Hot Pink

This is the first time I've worn my Ralph Lauren collared shirt in so long. I thought I would celebrate with a nice eye look. I started to go super dramatic like the looks I see on the net but then I remembered I had to go to work.

This is the one you guys liked. Hot pink is something I usually don't wear clothes wise but I love the makeup color. This is hot pink and black. I've learned that when you mix colors you get weird combinations. The hot pink comes from (what else) my Sugarpill palette. I figure I can get some good wear out of the colors while it's warm. The black is Wet n Wild panther. I love this little black eye-shadow.

Well... If I get some serious readers I will start making videos or something. You can comment and I will respond if you have any questions.

A touch of blue

Sometimes you just have to play around with colors.

I've learned that you have to just buy stuff to see if it works for you. Sometimes it's a big fail. I've bought some shadows that I wish I hadn't wasted my money on. I end up giving them away to some young teenager that could care less about the color payoff.

I, on the other hand, can't afford not to look "right" when I go to work. I don't want to put on makeup and have it looking crazy midday without a way to fix it. It has happened to me so many times that I've began to eliminate some brands that just don't work for me.
Then you have to experiment with the colors before you actually wear them out of the house. I test out colors together before I actually wear them. You know those days you are in the house with nothing to "really" do. Those are great days to test out the colors.
One good idea I've learned is to look in your closet for inspiration. Whatever colors work in the closet will work on the eyes.  I found these colors in a shirt in my closet.  I tested it out and this is what I came up with.

It was a neon day

Hey ladies! So the day was sunny and going great. I decided to wear my bright neon green short. Mind you, I have been losing weight like crazy lately so it doesn't fit like it use to. HA! Well, I wore it to be nice and cheerful.

Months ago, I won a Yaby palette from Crystalis007 on YouTube. It is a super pigmented colorful palette. In my field, I have to be careful with being too colorful. I used that palette with my Ulta bargains. They always have those sales on palettes. I have a great collection of wearable colors. They are namebrand quality shadows but super affordable.

So here's what I did. I started with a primer. I used two primers. The shadow insurance makes it not crease but doesn't have the best wearability. I topped it with the cheap but effective elf primer. Nyx jumbo eye pencil in milk went on too of that to guarantee a more effective color payoff.

Now comes the superblending needed whenever working with colors. I started a with taking from Sugarpill. I blended that out with the neon from the Yaby palette. Then I added a darker bright green as I went toward the outer V of my eye. This creates the bright colors for my look.

I have deep set eyes. I have to work with my crease in my looks. I used the Green Ulta palettes to make a crease that wasn't dramatically placed. I deepened it with another Ulta palette that contained browns. The liner needed to be thin so I used liquid. Believe it or not, I didn't put on any mascara in this look.

Magenta day

Magenta is one of my go-to colors. I own two magenta colored, collar shirts. Of course, I have lots of shadows that are close but not magenta. So for this post I had to do some explaining.
When you don't own the right color you have to mix two colors together to come up with the color you are going for. For example, there are many shades between lilac and purple. Lilac is more of a light, bluish colored purple which means you can start off with a white-blue shadow and brush purple on top of it.
Okay? So, long story short, I had to mix a couple of colors to create this magenta. I took the hot pink from my Sugarpill sweetheart palette and mixed it with the purple in the burning heart palette. I creates a great deep magenta for my outer-v and crease areas.
I had on pants with all the colors in my shadow (the pants don't show in the pictures). I used the white (Tako) in my sweetheart palette for my year duct area and base for other colors. I then used my Wet n Wild holiday palette to get the purple tinted blue blended after the white.
I had fun with this look and learned a lot about colors. I also learned that a bad shadow will ruin a look. Just because you have some void shadows within a palette doesn't mean they all work the same. *SIGHS* I guess I will continue looking for better shadows. (I need a job just to pay for these shadows.)

Colorful but not work wearable

Here is a look I did playing around in makeup. I used my Sugarhill palettes and my Coastal scents palette. This time I added concealer and lashes for a cleaner look.
